Ter­ti­us Gaud­ens – die Wit­ten­ber­ger Weiber­wirtschaft was foun­ded in 2009 and is ded­ic­ated to the his­tor­ic­al reen­act­ment of the ​“Jupi­ter­bad” bath­house, which once stood on Schlossplatz. Today, the group is based in the imme­di­ate vicin­ity of the ori­gin­al site on the Schlosswiese, where it brings to life the bathing and tav­ern cul­ture of bygone days.

The reen­act­ment focuses on the func­tions of a his­tor­ic bath­house as well as the social life sur­round­ing the bath­house oper­a­tions and tav­ern. In addi­tion to caring for and attend­ing to bath­house guests, the mem­bers also demon­strate the con­vivi­al gath­er­ings that were once cus­tom­ary in such estab­lish­ments. In the so-called Jupiter Tav­ern, people eat, drink, and cel­eb­rate togeth­er. Through humor­ous per­form­ances and lively camp life, the group offers an enter­tain­ing glimpse into the bathing and fest­iv­al cul­ture of that era.
