The Wittenberg Festival 30 years Luther's wedding anniversary

What’s happening at Luther’s Wedding?

From June 12 to 14, 2026, Lutherstadt Wittenberg will celebrate the traditional festival Luther’s Wedding.” Over this weekend, the city will travel back to the time of the Reformation to properly commemorate the marriage of Martin Luther and Katharina von Bora in 1525, 501 years ago. With historical costumes, traditional crafts, a bustling market, and a lavish program, Wittenberg will become the stage for one of Germany’s largest wedding celebrations.

The program will be finalized in the coming weeks. Here’s an overview of some of the events:

Friday, June 122026

The lively festivities begin in the city streets at 5:00 p.m. Late Friday afternoon, the newlyweds will enter the courtyard of the Augusteum, where they will be cheered by many friends and contemporaries from that era. Afterward, we look forward to welcoming Martin and Katharina and their entourage at 5:00 p.m. on the market square for the grand opening of the three-day wedding celebrations! Jubel!

Saturday, June 132026

The festivities begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Look forward to the grand historical parade with over 2,000 cheering wedding guests, starting at 2:00 p.m.. The starting point is the Luther House. Throughout the day, a diverse program awaits you, featuring concerts and theater, dancing and dance classes, medieval rock with bagpipes and the rhythm of many drummers, blues & folk, and fanfare bands.

Sunday, June 142026

Sunday is Family Day! Starting at 11:00 a.m., the program is geared especially toward children, parents, and grandparents. At 10:30 a.m., the children’s Luther couple will cut the wedding cake in the Lutherhof. At 11:00 a.m., little Katharina and little Martin will lead the historic children’s parade through the city with 400 children from Wittenberg’s clubs, daycare centers, and schools, handing out sweet treats along the way. Our historic play street (Wallstraße) for children invites young and old to imaginative adventures on Sunday as well.

We are constantly updating this page and adding more details about the wedding celebration of the century. We look forward to seeing you!
