No one will be bored at the festival on Church Square: fun and fascinating activities await with crafts, messenger races, and farmers
On Church Square, surrounding St. Mary’s Church — to which Martin Luther once returned from Wartburg Castle and delivered his famous Invokavit” sermons — guilds, artisans, and historical societies gather to celebrate. This is where the heart of the old trades beats: loud, lively, and full of energy.

Bricklayers, painters, blacksmiths, barbers, stonemasons, roofers, and carpenters practice their crafts in the guild courtyard, showcasing their skills with planes, hammers, and stone.

The Fahnengarde Vogtland creates a festive atmosphere with its impressive flag-wavers and the cry Werft hoch – lasset fallen,” accompanied by tavern entertainment, music, and lively street performances.

The town church itself also becomes part of the festivities: it invites visitors to a service featuring blessings for couples, opens its doors to the English Ministry, and fills the sacred space with impressive organ music. At night, the UNESCO World Heritage Church creates a special atmosphere of light, sound, and silence as part of Church @ Night.

A highlight on the church square is the carpenters’ celebration on the suspended roof truss: craftsmanship at lofty heights! Angelo & Band perform the finest Italo-pop-rock, providing musical brilliance and lively evening entertainment.
