The Wittenberg Festival 30 years Luther's wedding anniversary

The crowds flock to the castle courtyard — where music, entertainment, and chaos reign

The castle courtyard is the beating heart of the festival. For all three days, music, juggling, and the joyful, boisterous hustle and bustle fill the ancient walls. Confilius, Ars Mystica, and Satolstelamanderfanz take the stage, market vendors invite you to dance, and in the participatory theater, the crowd becomes part of the spectacle.

As evening falls, the main stage comes alive in full force:
On Friday and Saturday, Rockfire, Batiargang, and Abstrakte Frequenzen deliver powerful sounds and a lively atmosphere. On Sunday, the Rosenstolz tribute band pays homage to Anna R. with a special concert evening.

Amid tavern smoke and campfires, you’ll find traditional crafts, medieval games for all ages, juggling, dancing, and all manner of curiosities. The bakery is filled with the aroma of fresh bread, while the ferret circus amazes young and old alike.

But it’s not just the cheerful side of the Middle Ages on display here: the Landsknechts and Knights of the Black Dragon offer glimpses into the darker times of centuries past — complete with pillories, weaponry, and strict discipline.

Farmers, knights, and their entourages camp in the castle courtyard. Musicians play by the light of the fires, while squires, mercenaries, and the castle guard watch over the well-being of the far-traveled spectators.
