The Wittenberg Festival 30 years Luther's wedding anniversary

This is where over 500 years of love began: dance, music, and exuberant joy at Ring und Reigen!

This is where over 500 years of love began: dance, music, and exuberant joy in a circle of song and dance!
The Luther House, originally built as an Augustinian monastery, was more than just a place of residence for Martin Luther; it was the setting for his formative years. For over 35 years, the Reformer spent a large part of his life here. First as a monk, then as a leading thinker of the Reformation, he shaped not only the history of the Church but also the European intellectual world. Within these walls, he wrote his groundbreaking 95 Theses and developed the ideas that revolutionized religious and social life. His famous table talks also took place here, and his writings — which led to a turning point in world history — took shape here as well.

This is also where the story of Martin Luther and Katharina von Bora began; they were married on June 13, 1525, within the walls of the Augustinian monastery and spent many happy years of marriage here. This event will also be celebrated at the Lutherhof on all three days of the festival. Enjoy this extraordinary place with all your senses: whether with music and dance, a delicious drink from the von Bora” tavern, or a group photo with the Luther couple in front of the festively decorated Katharinenportal. Or embark on a journey into Luther’s world by visiting the special exhibitions at the Augusteum, where you can also admire Katharina von Bora’s wedding ring.

NOTE: Admission to the Ring und Reigen” (Lutherhof) experience is free. Regular admission prices apply this weekend for visits to the special exhibitions at the Augusteum.

What else awaits you:

The festivities for Luther’s Wedding” begin at the Lutherhof. Accompanied by aFanfahrenzug, the city guard, and their entourage, Martin and Katharina set off from the Lutherhof toward the market square, where the official opening of the festival will take place.

In the evening, the Lutherhof invites guests to the wedding dances. Renaissance music fills the courtyard, accompanied by a dance workshop led by Saltatius Burgus e.V. – guests are warmly invited to immerse themselves in the period line dances.

On Saturday, the courtyard of the Luther House will also serve as the festive starting point for the grand historical parade. Beforehand, the von Bora” tavern invites guests to a wedding morning pint with musical accompaniment.

Martin and Katharina will welcome their guests at the Luther House and will also be available for a commemorative photo in front of their historic home. Meanwhile, the grand procession forms outside the gates and sets off together with the couple.

On Saturday evening, the concert by Elena & Chris will delight the crowd with lute music, joie de vivre, and Italian flair.

On Sunday, the little Luther couple” will ceremoniously cut the wedding cake.

Following this, the historical children’s parade begins in front of the Augusteum. A fanfare band and minstrels accompany the children, who hand out strawberry cake and cookies to the guests along the way, while another group collects donations for the Katharina von Bora Hospice.

In the afternoon, the Lutherhof invites you to a festive finale: a concert by the Paul Gerhardt Orchestra will provide the musical conclusion to the festivities.
