Wittenberger Bauernvolk
The Wittenberg Historical Farmers’ Group “Bauernvolk” was founded in 1994 and has been an integral part of Wittenberg’s historical festival culture ever since. Initially, personal contacts with the sister city of Bretten led to the participation of individual Wittenberg residents in the first “Luther’s Wedding” festival, which soon developed into the founding of the association. Since then, the group has primarily consisted of families who jointly portray historical peasant life and pass on their enthusiasm across generations.
The association regularly participates in Luther’s Wedding, the Reformation Festival, and regional events such as pottery markets, where, among other things, a historic wood-fired oven is used. Highlights of the association’s history include participation in Saxony-Anhalt Days, Fläming Festivals, and international exchanges, including trips to Springfield (USA), Sulmona (Italy), and Haderslev (Denmark). In addition, members have contributed to historical projects such as the reenactment of the “Nuns’ Flight” and served as extras in the Luther film. Through crafts, music, dance, and culinary offerings, the camp conveys a vivid picture of everyday rural life in times past.
