Stadtwache Bretten e.V.

The Stadtwache Bretten e.V. was founded in 1987 and is dedicated to bringing the town’s history and historical defense capabilities to life. With approximately 170 members today, the association is one of the most traditional historical groups and has regularly participated in the well-known Peter and Paul Festival in Bretten since 1988. The historical model is the city guard from the early 14th to the early 16th century, whose task was to maintain order and security within the city walls, guard the city gates, and protect the population in times of unrest.

There is a close, friendly connection with the Wittenberg City Guard, through which the group regularly participates in Luther’s wedding. Together with the Wittenberg City Guard, the members set up a historical camp and participate in program events and parades. With authentic equipment, attire, and reenactments, they vividly convey the daily life and duties of a historical city guard, thereby contributing to a lively overall atmosphere of the festival.
