For nearly two dec­ades now, the Land­sknechte Wit­ten­berg have been enrich­ing the fest­iv­it­ies sur­round­ing Luther’s wed­ding with a lively and tongue-in-cheek por­tray­al of the his­tor­ic­al life of mer­cen­ar­ies. As a scattered band, accom­pan­ied by their camp fol­low­ers, they see it as their duty to vigil­antly pro­tect the Elect­or and his entour­age. With long pikes, impress­ive attire, and a dash of humor, they chase away ne’er-do-wells and main­tain order in the camp. Cook­ing, roast­ing, and bak­ing take place over an open fire, while the con­vivi­al camp life is enjoyed. The res­ult is an authen­t­ic yet enter­tain­ing por­tray­al of the rough but com­mun­al daily life of the Landsknechte.
