The Land­sknechte und Ritter Schwar­zer Drachen is a group of his­tory enthu­si­asts from the Wit­ten­berg area and its sur­round­ings who have been help­ing to organ­ize the fest­iv­it­ies sur­round­ing Luther’s wed­ding since 2001. Born from the idea of becom­ing an act­ive part of the his­tor­ic city fest­iv­al, the group evolved from a loose asso­ci­ation into a close-knit com­munity of knights, squires, drum­mers, and camp mem­bers. Their goal is to present medi­ev­al life­style and camp cul­ture in a vivid and enter­tain­ing way.

In the camp, mem­bers reen­act scenes from the daily lives of mer­cen­ar­ies and knights, accom­pan­ied by drum­beats, crafts­man­ship, and com­mun­al camp life. Hand­craf­ted props such as a pil­lory, a cage, or a rack cre­ate authen­t­ic yet always tongue-in-cheek present­a­tions. The joy of shared exper­i­ences, open­ness toward vis­it­ors, and enthu­si­asm for his­tor­ic­al cos­tumes, music, and crafts define the group’s pres­ence and bring his­tory to life in a vivid way.
