The His­tor­ische Stadtwache Wit­ten­berg e.V. was foun­ded in 1998 and has been an integ­ral part of the cul­tur­al and his­tor­ic­al life of Luth­er­stadt Wit­ten­berg ever since. The asso­ci­ation par­ti­cip­ates in numer­ous city events, includ­ing recep­tions, city fest­ivals, and form­al occa­sions, and is also involved in guided city tours and his­tor­ic­al pro­grams. The City Guard also rep­res­ents the city of Wit­ten­berg in his­tor­ic­al cos­tume at spe­cial events atten­ded by nation­al and inter­na­tion­al guests.

The Stadtwache (City Guard) plays a cent­ral role in the his­tor­ic­al reen­act­ment of Luther’s wed­ding. Togeth­er with their part­ner city guard from Bretten, the mem­bers set up a his­tor­ic­al camp where they demon­strate the duties, equip­ment, and daily life of a muni­cip­al guard dur­ing the Reform­a­tion era. Through authen­t­ic cos­tumes and vivid reen­act­ments, they vividly con­vey to vis­it­ors how secur­ity and order were organ­ized in a 16^th-cen­tury city, thereby con­trib­ut­ing sig­ni­fic­antly to the atmo­sphere of the festival.
