Schäfergruppe Bretten e.V.

The Schäfergruppe Bretten e.V. was founded in 1964 and is dedicated to showcasing traditional shepherding. The group has its roots in the Peter and Paul Festival in Bretten, where it has maintained its own shepherds’ encampment for many years, vividly presenting the life of shepherds through traditional clothing, dances, and authentic tools. Over the years, what began as a small group has grown into a community of around 200 members.

During Luther’s Wedding, the Schäfergruppe participates in the parade and offers insights into the way of life and daily routines of shepherds from days gone by. The group is also known for participating in the parades barefoot and for its characteristic call, Hammele Mäh.”
