Here you will find the best entertainment
Whether in front of the Theses or in the midst of the lively hustle and bustle of the taverns — the heart of the wedding festival beats on the Schlossplatz. Thousands of guests gather at this popular meeting place, where the aroma of mead, cherry beer, savoury meat and freshly baked cream bread fills the air.
The castle meadow stretches out at the foot of the Schlosswiese. It becomes a camp, market, theatre and pilgrimage site for many craftsmen, minstrels, jugglers and historical societies from Wittenberg, the surrounding area and our twin towns. Take a look at how people lived back then and mingle with the locals. This is also where the historic chariot wheel pull takes place with a grand finale on Sunday afternoon.
Peasants, knights and their retinues set up camp in the Schlosshof while musicians play in the flickering light of the fires. Journeymen, lansquenets and the castle guard watch over the colourful goings-on and ensure that the many well-travelled guests can enjoy the festival without a care in the world. You can also immerse yourself in the harsh times of the Middle Ages here: the lansquenets and knights of the Black Dragon await you with pillories and other gloomy insights into life in days gone by.
People gather at the Markt to listen to music and socialise. The spacious square is lined with magnificent town houses, the imposing old town hall and the monuments to Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon. The largest tavern in the city is created here for the festival — a place full of sound and life, from which the music flows in all directions and carries the news of the wedding far beyond the square.
A special premiere awaits you in the Brauhof: the freshly brewed wedding beer, created especially for the celebration! Enjoy the unique brew in a convivial atmosphere and let yourself be spoilt with hearty delicacies. A treat for everyone who appreciates good beer and a historic atmosphere!
A feast like in the old days! Probably the longest wedding table in Wittenberg invites locals and guests to take a seat and celebrate together in Mittelstraße. On Saturday between 17:00 and 19:00, the large table stretches over an impressive 500 metres — with the ambitious goal of bringing together more than 1,000 guests. Come together, drink and dine in good company and be part of this unique experience!
